MALAYSIANS Mohd Azlan Iskandar and Ong Beng Hee cleared their first hurdles respectively here and advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's singles squash competition in the 16th Asian Games, Thursday night.
Mohd Azlan, who received a 'bye' in the first round, defeated South Korea's Lee Nyeon Ho in straight sets 11-1, 11-9 and 11-7 in 34 minutes and meet Hong Kong's Lee Ho Yin in quarterfinal which will be held at the centre court of the Asian Games Town Gymnasium, Friday.
Ho Yin booked his berth in the last eight after defeating China's Meng Xiaomin with an identical three-game scores of 11-3 in 23 minutes.
Meanwhile, Beng Hee also had an easy passage to the quarterfinals after defeating Yuta Fukui of Japan 11-2, 11-7 and 11-5 in just 19 minutes.
In Friday's quarterfinal match, the defending Asian Games gold medallist, Beng Hee will be meeting Abdullah Almezayen of Kuwait, who is playing under the International Olympic Committee (IOC) flag.
All Kuwait's athletes participating in the ongoing Asian Games are competing under the IOC flag since their national Olympic committee was banned by the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA).
Earlier, Abdullah defeated Lee Seung Joon of South Korea 11-2, 11-7 and 11-3 in a match that lasted 24 minutes. - Bernama
